The 4th Maritime Silk Road International Arts Festival – “The Belt and Road Imitative” Performance Week – ‘Silk Road: Past and Present’ Exchange Concert

Hong Kong Gaudeamus Dunhuang Ensemble (HKGDE) and Quanzhou Nanyin Ensemble co-presented “Silk Road Past and Present” Exchange Concert at Quanzhou Nanyin Art Centre. Quanzhou Nanyin Ensemble is one of the essential arts groups in Fujian Province. The exchange concert successfully opened a melodiously “dialogue” with traditional Quanzhou Nanyin and innovative Dunhuang music, it likes the harmony duet of the music of Silk Road and Maritime Silk Road travelling in millennium.
10 songs were shared with the audiences, included small ensemble pieces “Fugue in C Major” and “Sorrow of a Changsha Woman, Solo pieces “Offering” and “Tsangyang Gyatso/Aikyam”, and the famous Nanyin score “Zouma” , etc. HKGDE members are honored to play the pieces with the masters of Quanzhou Nanyin, Mr. Chen Te Chao and Mr. Wang Dahao. Mr. Wang is also a National Class One Musician. They performed ancient tunes “Three Variations of Yangguan” and “Mei Yun” which rearranged by one of the ancient Nanyin manuscript “Meihua Cao” and Dongxiao Solo “Xiao Shu”.
Through this meaningful concert, not only to deepened our understanding of Quanzhou Nanyin as one of the intangible cultural heritages, HKGDE members were also admired the Quanzhou Nanyin Ensemble and inspired by the shown passion and determination of cultural preservation on Quanzhou Nanyin. Their philosophy for inheriting culture is remarkable and the warm applause lighted up the great ending of the Quanzhou Performance Tour.
