Artistic Coordinator and Composer-in-residence

Kam is Artistic Coordinator and composer-in-residence of Hong Kong Gaudeamus Dunhuang Ensemble. Kam graduated with first-class honors at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, majoring in composition under the supervision of Ms. Viola Yuen and Dr. Cheung Pui-shan, also studying orchestral conducting under Mak ka-lok, Sharon Choa, Ho Man-chuen, Alan Cumberland, Richard Pontzious and James Judd. Kam has received his master’s degree in Buddhist Student at the University of Hong Kong under the  scholarship from Tung Lin Kok Yuen. Kam has been premiering his works and receiving commissions by different musicians and groups in Hong Kong since 2013. He had received several awards and scholarships, including the CASH Composition Scholarship, Jackie Chan Charitable Foundation Scholarship, Musicus Society Trey Lee Scholarship, Thomas Lee Creativity Prizes, Parson Outstanding Composition, Schools’ Outstanding Student Award 2017 and etc. 

In 2015, he participated a multimedia production ‘Post Guangxin’. In the same year, he was commissioned by the ‘Asian Young Musicians’ connection’ and a Piano trio ensemble ‘Triozolla’. In 2016, he participated in the ‘SOUND IMAGination 2016 Concert’ and his chamber work ‘To Seed’ was performed at ‘TEDxWanChai’. In the same year he went to Dunhuang, and since then, he started to write music about the Dunhuang and Buddhist culture. In 2017, he finished the debut of his two orchestral pieces, ‘On Rlung Rta as Such and on the Rlung Rta of Lotus’ and ‘Rakta Yamari’. In April, he debuted his opera in Cantonese ‘On Harmony as Such and on the Harmony of Men’ which was presented again in the ‘International Symposium on Practice-as-Resceach (ISPaR) 2017’, ‘Beautiful Hong Kong 2018’ in Tai Kwun and ‘Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2018’ in Japan. In mid-2018, he also received commission from the ‘Hong Kong Art Festival Plus’ for his modern musical drama ‘Journey to the West’.
